The City Game: a competitive team building experience

0051-300x200

ILead presents the next chapter in its Leadership Lab series, The City Game. The City Game is a hands-on, competitive, team-building experience providing an opportunity for like-minded engineering students to work together to tackle significant societal issues. The event will be facilitated by Shakil Choudhury: author, award-winning educator, and leadership expert at Anima Leadership.

In anticipation of The City Game, Shakil Choudhury shared his perspective on the most valuable qualities a leader can emulate:

“The most important quality for a leader, in my opinion, starts with self-awareness. Paradoxically, the more we are aware of what happens inside our minds/bodies, the better we are managing what happens in the outside world. So being attuned to our own feelings and needs is critical. The second is self-regulation, the ability to manage ourselves in times of stress, crisis and pressure. This skill is related to managing the awareness that all of us have blind spots and biases, that we must have the courage to receive feedback from others and manage the feelings that accompany that. The third is empathy, the ability to tune into the feelings and needs of other people. And lastly is the broad category of relationship building skills, which includes being able to manage conflict well. These 4 skills form the foundation of emotional intelligence and are essential qualities for positive, authentic leadership.”
