Postponing events & expanding connections

Troost ILead is postponing in-person events at this time as directed by the University. But, we’re brainstorming innovative and fun ways to bring the engineering community together to learn, and build personal and professional connections in virtual environments. Stay tuned for some interactive and energizing online content! You can follow us on social media for updates @ILeadUofT. ?

Professional Influence Communications in Engineering (P.I.C.E.)

How many times have you had an idea that you strongly believed in, but others didn’t agree? How many times have you disagreed about a decision in your team, but didn’t know how to voice it? Come to this 2-part workshop to explore your own strengths and weaknesses around expressing disagreement and exerting compassionate influence in an engineering context. You will learn and practice approaches and techniques to improve the way you share and collaborate on ideas to become a more effective communicator. Those that complete the program will receive an ILead Certificate in Influence Communications.

Content and Topics

  • Structure a clear and compelling case for an idea considering context and logic.
  • Practice and build your confidence around phrasing disagreement, so that people will listen, and so you have respectful and productive discussions.
  • Build an approach to influencing others and making decisions that considers why yourself, others, and groups become attached to ideas, and how emotions come into play.
